Spontaneous dissection of the carotid and vertebral arteries.

چکیده
The carotid color Doppler ultrasound is usually the first imaging modality employed for the assessment of patients with cerebrovascular symptoms. The recognition of the distal stenoocclusive flow pattern is key for the detection of spontaneous dissection of the internal carotid and vertebral arteries in young patients who present cerebral ischaemic signs. We present six cases of patients whose diagnosis was initially suggested by carotid color Doppler ultrasound.

A case of aberrant bilateral vertebral arteries orgin presenting with right VA dissection
Background: Knowledge of variations in the origin of vertebral artery (VA) is indispensable to vascular surgeons. Aberrant origin of vertebral artery on either side is an uncommon finding. There are unilateral and bilateral variability in VA origin. Case presentation: We present a case of vertebral artery dissection who was found to have bilateral VAs aberrant origin. The right VA took origin ...
متن کاملCarotid angioplasty and stenting in a patient with high grade stenosis of Internal Carotid Artery associated with both vertebral arteries and contralateral carotid occlusion
Severe internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis is a common cause of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in middle-aged patients. Contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO) in patients with severe ICA stenosis is associated with high risk of CVA. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is associated with more complications in patients with CCO than those without CCO. In this study, we present the case of a 61-year-ol...
متن کاملPostcoital carotid artery dissection associated with acute cerebral infarction: a case report.
Carotid arterial dissections may result from spontaneous or traumatic causes. Postcoital arterial dissections have been reported in both the vertebral and coronary arteries. We report a rare case of spontaneous dissection from the common carotid artery to the internal and external carotid arteries after sexual intercourse, leading to fulminant middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory infarct. Alt...
متن کاملVasomotion in multiple spontaneous cervical artery dissections.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The etiology of spontaneous cervical artery dissection (sCAD) is still unknown, even though an underlying arteriopathy impairing vasomotion has often been suspected. This study was undertaken to investigate: (1) spontaneous, (2) endothelial-dependent, and (3) endothelial-independent vasodilation in patients with multiple sCAD. METHODS In 19 consecutive patients with mul...
متن کاملSix-Vessel Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection and Vertebral Artery Dissection in Fibromuscular Dysplasia
Fibromuscular dysplasia is a non-inflammatory and non-atherosclerotic arteriopathy commonly affecting medium-size renal, carotid, and vertebral arteries. Involvement of the coronary artery is very rare but may cause life-threatening spontaneous dissection. Because it is rare, this disease may go unrecognized. A unique angiographic finding of non-coronary arteries can make an early diagnosis, an...
